There may be a good
number of people who have escaped from the clutches of death at some point of
their life. There may also be those who have escaped death more than once. But those who have escaped from death 4 or 5
times will be hard to find and I am one among them. I had escaped from the clutches of death 5
times since birth.
The first time when I
had come face to face with death was when I was hardly 2 ½ years old. My neighbour who was an advocate in the
Munisiff’s Court at Cherthala, Kerala used to leave the house by 9’clock every day. On that fateful day also he left at usual
time and walked a few metres when he remembered that he has forgotten to take
his specks and went back to his
house. While returning to his house he
noticed some big bubbles coming from the pond and to his surprise found one of
my hands appearing on the surface of the water.
Immediately he realized it was me and shouted at his servant who was
working in the courtyard to jump and save me which he did instantaneously and
thereby I escaped from death. Had my neighbour not forgotten his specks on that
day I would not have been alive today.
The second incident had happened when I was 3 years old. I fell seriously ill and was diagonised as having
Fatty Liver which is a very serious ailment. I was under treatment at the Government Hospital for sometime but without any avail. Subsequently,
I had to undergo treatment of one of the
famous homeopathic doctors of Cherthala those days named Dr.Bhat and as a
result of which I had survived the illness.
The third one was
escape from a train accident which took place at Perumon in Quilon District of Kerala in the
late 80s. Although I had planned to go to Trivandrum on that day by
Kanyakumari Express for some work, I had to postpone the journey last minute
due to some inconvenience. In the night when we heard the news regarding
the tragedy in which so many people died,
myself and wife heaved a sigh of relief for my having postponed the
journey and thereby escaping from the
accident.
The fourth escape was
from a scooter accident . I had bought a new scooter and after taking the
delivery, my brother-in-law was driving the same while I was pillion rider. When we reached my present home town Vaikom
the scooter got skidded and both of us were thrown off the vehicle sustaining minor
injuries all over the body. I have escaped without sustaining any major injury . .
The fifth escape was again
from a scooter accident that took place during 1998. A couple of days prior to that, one of my
close friends who was the leader of
INTUC-led Union at Velloor Newsprint T.V.Joseph was stabbed to death in his
coir factory at Cherthala by his own worker .
This incident has come as a rude
shock to me and I was totally out of
mind. The following day we had to go to
my wife’s house urgently and myself and wife went on the scooter but I forgot to take
helmet. While we were half way through,
the scooter got skidded and both of us fell down and I had sustained head
injury while my right hand got fractured. I was hospitalized while my wife
escaped unhurt. Fortunately for me, in
the X-ray it was seen that my head injury was not serious and I was discharged
from the hospital after 3 days.
In this way I escaped from the clutches of death 5 times to remain alive today due to sheer luck.
