RAHUL GANDHI’S PHOTO EATS BISCUITS. WHAT? ARE YOU MAD?

Rahul Gandhi’ photo eats biscuits‼ Hey how can  a photo eat biscuits? Those Congress and youth Congress workers who are Rahul disciples whose Rahul bhakthi is at its zenith are mad. That is why they try to make us believe such a foolish thing. I had at first come to know about this from a post put by one of my friends in Face Book. The caption of the post read thus: “Rahul Gandhi’s photo eats biscuits”. It was further mentioned in that post that this “wonder event” had taken place at Congress Bhawan at Trivandrum where Congress and youth Congress leaders  assembled in good numbers and are queuing up to give biscuits to Rahul’s photo. It was also mentioned in the said post that even young turk leader and MLA VT Balram from Trithala was busy buying biscuits to be given to Rahul’s photo. When I read this post my feeling was not surprise but rather than that’ it was mere sympathy towards these so-called youth leaders who claim themselves to be youth icons for having stooped so low as to conduct such ridiculous feats. .

At a time when we are about to march to 21st century, how can anybody expect people to swallow such fabricated stories without adding water? If this kind of things are indulged in by anybody who is uneducated or illiterate people, it could have been appreciated. Alas, in this case it is the Congress and Youth Congress workers including leaders who have performed such a foolish act. Needless to state, it is beyond anybody’s comprehension as to how could they come to this conclusion about such a thing and spread the news? Are these Congress workers including VT Balram MLA are slaves of superstition to belleve such a thing? Later on it had come to my notice that this ridiculous feat was not confined to Kerala and Congress workers in Northern India had also conducted same. Also photographs of Congress workers feeding biscuits to Rahul Gandh’s mouth in posters in Northern India had appeared in the press.

When I touch upon this issue, I feel it is pertinent to recall some similar events that had taken place in the country in the past. That is to say, while I was working in New Delhi during the former half of 80s, Sathya Sai Baba pooja was used to be performed in many a house of Sai devotees. One day a news had emanated that whle the pooja was going on in a house, it was noticed by the Poojary that oil is coming from Sai Baba’s photo. He has in turn brought this to the notice of those present at that time including the house owner and all have felt the same to be true. Soon the news felt like wild fire first to the neighbourhood and later to the whole of Delhi. Naturally, a large number of people had assembled at the said house to watch the “wonder” of oil coming from Sai Baba’s photo. This incident was very live in the news for a few days.

After a few years, we heard the news about Ganapthi’s idol drinking milk in some temple in North India.. When the hollowness of that was exposded by the scientists those who had apread this news had to cut a sorry figure and nothing further was heard aboujt it afterwards.

The third incident of “wonder” had taken place sometime during the year 2000. During those days I was employed in the central public sector enterprise of Hindustan Newsprint Ltd, at Velloor in Kottayam district. One fine morning the news had spread that oil is coming from Infant Jesus’s eyes in the idol placed in the Infant Jesus Church located at Thalayolaparambu whch is also in the same District . It was the vicar who  had felt this at first who has informed other priests about it. The news had spread in no time not only in the vicinity or the district but also to the neighbouring districts of Kottayam and Ernakulam also. It was but natural that people had started rushing to the Infant Jesus Church to witness the “miracle sight”. The church premses and surrounding areas were filled with huge crowds of devotees and other public in a few hours’ time resulting in traffic jam in the nearby roads. Consequently, police had tough time in controlling the crowd and clear the traffic jam. The flow of devotees and public continued for a week or so. Afterwards this episode was totally forgotten by one and all.

In the instant case of news regarding Rahul Gandhi’s photo eating biscuits, we can forgive the Congressmen of north India. This is so in view of the fact that north India is a den of many social evils and superstitions as compared to Kerala. We can also forgive those devotees who have become mad due to blind faith.

In sharp contrast, in a state like Kerala which gloats over achieving 100% literacy, the fact that such foolish show of superstition or falsehood was conducted at the instance of Congress leaders and workers whose Rahul bhakthi found no bounds, is a shame on our pride. It is all the more surprising that such attempts aimed at creating superstition are conducted while the need of the hour is to eradicate the same. This, to say the least, is a pointer to the degradation of their mindsets which will show all Keralites in poor light.

Let us be ‘ashamed that such foolish acts are committed in the state of Kerala which has a glorious tradition of fighting social evils and many superstitions.
